Bali is one of the best tourist destinations in the world. In addition to its natural beauty and unique culture and arts, in Bali there are luxurious accommodations up to 5 stars that pamper tourists. There are many hotels, villas, and guesthouses to choose according to your budget and needs. In terms of architecture, we can find villas or hotels with various stunning designs. However, for villas, there are three main styles that we usually find, namely Balinese, joglo, and modern styles. Each of these styles has advantages and disadvantages, and makes it difficult for those of you who are planning to build a villa to choose.
Balinese style
Balinese style villa leads to traditional Balinese house. Balinese traditional houses follow an ancient architectural style that is strictly a blend of Hinduism and Buddhism so as to produce a house that is “in harmony” with the laws of the Balinese Hindu cosmos.
Balinese style villas are divided into different blocks, usually one for the kitchen / living room, and another for the rooms. The front entrance is in the form of a “gapura”, there is also a gazebo and Pelinggih (small temple). The building is arranged in a square and the center is used for a garden with beautiful lights at night.
Joglo style
The second is the joglo style. The joglo building is a traditional Javanese house. We can see the application of this joglo style on the roof of the villa. The hallmark of Javanese house architecture is the dominance of hierarchical rules which can be seen in the shape of the roof and the layout of the organization. Javanese traditional houses have a very similar layout, but the shape and height of the roof determine the social and economic status of the homeowner.
The Joglo roof consists of pillars that get higher as it goes towards the center. The four columns of the main house are built high, while the outer columns are low. These four pillars, the deepest in the house, support the steepest of all Javanese roofs like a pyramid, hopefully having two peaks rather than one.
Modern Type
In Bali, today you find many villas with a modern style but with a Balinese touch. Modern style was brought by westerners in Bali. They brought their modern style to the island of the Gods then mixed it with traditional Balinese style. You can find different modern styles: minimalist, contemporary and industrial. If you are interested in building your house/villa in a modern style, you should give your villa a touch of Balinese style. For example, it could be in the garden.
